Terracotta Wall Tile – Love of Music
These four characterful musicians are based on medieval stone carvings found in Beverly Minster in Yorkshire. The men are playing a lute, two horns, a hurdy-gurdy and a tambourine. The Minster has over 70 carvings depicting 20 different instruments and is believed to be the world's largest collection of carvings of this type.
"If music be the food of love play on" says Duke Orsino in the first line of Shakespeare's comedy, Twelfth Night.
