Terracotta Wall Tile – Jacob's Ladder

 In 1499 the Bishop of Bath and Wells, Oliver King, had a vision of angels ascending and descending by a ladder to Heaven, as in Jacob's dream in Genesis. Nearby was an olive tree supporting a crown and a voice said: "Let and Olive establish the Crown and let a King restore the Church." Thus, the dream inspired him to rebuild the Abbey church and incorporate the dream into its design.
